My story
I graduated from Western University in 1986 and received my Canadian chartered accountant designation in 1989. I’ve been practicing tax full time since 1992. I began my tax career with Canada Revenue Agency followed by a tax manager position at Arthur Andersen. I joined Adams + Miles as a tax associate in 2000 and became tax partner in 2006. My tax practice is split about evenly between tax planning and compliance for the firm’s core client base of Canadian-controlled private corporations and their owner/managers and international tax planning for foreign entities expanding into Canada.
I’ve established a number of ongoing relationships with several U.S. CPA firms that have clients carrying on business in Canada. These relationships provide comprehensive cross border services to our mutual clients. I provide complete Canadian corporate and personal income tax, commodity tax and estate planning for the firm’s client base of Canadian controlled private corporations and their shareholders. I am the former chair of the AGN International Tax Committee (2016 to 2019). I present at many AGN conferences and online AGN webinars and am an active contributor to AGN knowledge share groups.
What drives me
One of the most exciting aspects of my role is the opportunity to work with Canadian companies expanding abroad, or foreign companies establishing operations in Canada through our membership in AGN International—a global association of accounting firms. I work regularly with AGN International firms from outside of Canada to deliver coordinated international tax planning that considers both Canadian tax law, as well as the client’s home country tax laws.
