My story

As one of our longest-serving team members, I’ve seen a great deal of change at A+M. In fact, I came on board before the current iteration of the firm even existed. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western University and earning my Chartered Accountant designation in 1988, I joined Allen Miles Fox & Johnston Chartered Accountants as an accounting student. Not long after, I left to join a small GTA accounting firm as a partner.

I returned to Allen & Miles in 2002 as a partner with the firm. We later merged with Adams Mason & Tilley in 2008 and became Adams & Miles LLP. These various roles, from junior accountant through to senior partner, gave me a solid and broad foundation in public accounting. Throughout my career, I’ve focused primarily on serving owner-managed private enterprises, high net-worth families, and incorporated professionals, providing consulting, assurance, accounting, estate, and taxation services. I’ve shared that expertise in the community through organizations such as the Entrepreneurial CPAs of Halton and the Brampton Board of Trade.

What drives me

If you ask me why I chose a career in accounting, the credit (at least in part) goes to some engaging high school teachers and a chartered accountant who worked with my father. They showed me that—contrary to popular belief—our profession isn’t about bean-counting. It’s really about helping companies succeed by working to address their many financial challenges and opportunities. I loved being able to interact with a wide variety of clients—and it quickly became clear that the expectation in public accounting wasn’t to simply deliver compliance services, but to provide our clients with customized accounting solutions.

I’ve been very proud to make A+M my professional home. Put simply, this is a great place to work. We know our clients by name, they know us, and they understand that they’ll receive a personalized service experience from our firm with quick response times. That includes communicating in language they can understand, without getting bogged down in technical jargon.

Here’s what I think everyone should know about A+M: We hold our values first and foremost. We’re focused on maintaining integrity and service excellence, while providing work-life balance to our team members. We work hard, but we want them to enjoy life, as well. Our work environment is collaborative and we treat each other like family. That explains why I’ve chosen to build my career with a group of caring and dynamic professionals, and it’s how I know that our firm is in great hands when the time comes for the next generation of leaders to take the reins.
