When we first met Andrew McConnell, we knew he had some special qualities. He was a young and ambitious accountant-in-training. He possessed a unique drive, attention to detail and a dedication to excellence—attributes that have long been a hallmark of our firm. In those early days as a university co-op student, his potential was clear—and, sure enough, Andrew would go on to establish himself as a key member of the Adams + Miles team, first as a staff accountant and most recently as a manager. Now, we’re very pleased to welcome him into our partnership group.
Andrew’s long history with the firm began in January 2010, when he was only 19 years old and attending Brock University. He would go on to graduate from the Goodman School of Business with a Bachelor of Accounting. Andrew accepted a full-time position with the firm in 2014; Adams + Miles was his first (and subsequently his only) employer in the accounting field.
You might say that Andrew’s career path in public accounting was in his genes. His grandfather was a chartered accountant (as the designation was known at the time) and the more Andrew learned from him about the profession, the more he began to understand the tremendous impact that accountants can have on the personal and professional success of their clients. That dedication to serving their best interests has come to define his career at A+M.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Andrew as the newest member of our partnership group,” said Adams + Miles Managing Partner Tony Sokic. “As he takes on significant new responsibilities, we know he’ll embrace these challenges and be as committed as ever to driving our firm’s growth. As a part of the A+M family for many years, we’re excited to see Andrew progress in his career and continue to make important contributions as a key member of our leadership team.”
As an Accounting and Assurance Partner, Andrew will be working with our corporate and personal clients, delivering services such as audits, reviews and compilation engagements, in addition to related strategic tax planning, to owners of privately-held corporations. He will continue to assist our Private Family and High Net-Worth clients in areas such as personal tax, estate tax management and planning.
“I really feel like I’ve grown up at Adams + Miles,” Andrew explains. “At the time I started, I remember the level of support that I would get from partners and managers. I was brand new to the sector and was taught on the job, not just from one person at the firm, but by everyone. It seemed like everyone understood where I was and could tailor support to what I needed—and that top-down approach has been a consistent characteristic of working at the firm.”
He continues: “Being an advisor is why I got into this business in the first place. As a member of the partnership group, I’ll have the opportunity to spend more time working directly with clients, better understanding their personal and professional goals and delivering proactive advice so they can focus on living life or running their businesses with confidence, knowing they’re receiving the best possible accounting and assurance advice.”
Andrew is being mentored in his new role by long-time Partner John Seychuk. He notes that Andrew’s ability to lead and help clients achieve their goals has only strengthened over time:
“We were very fortunate more than 15 years ago to have found a bright, young accounting student whose values—around performance, integrity, respect, professionalism, loyalty and balance—aligned so well with our firm’s, and still do today. Adams + Miles will continue to grow and evolve over the years, and we’re excited to know that our clients and our team members are in good hands with Andrew and the rest of our leadership team at the helm.”
When he’s not at the office, Andrew enjoys spending time with his family, playing hockey and watching Marvel- or Star Wars-themed films and TV shows.
